Soren Stockman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Poetry from New York University.

As an undergraduate, he curated and organized Fahrenheit, a monthly open mic and reading series at Niagara in the East Village with the Antagonist Art Movement, served as Editor-In-Chief of West 10th Magazine, NYU’s preeminent undergraduate literary journal, introduced (edit: anti-vaxxer) Robert Kennedy, Jr. as a member of The Albert Gallatin Lecture Series Student Committee, featured work in the Gallatin Arts Festival, and performed the title role of John Merrick in The Elephant Man at Wings Theater. He also appeared in Nuclear Love Affair at Theater for the New City, and played the role of Fortinbras in Hamlet at Galapagos Art Space and Grace Exhibition Space.

Stockman served for many years as Program Coordinator for Summer Literary Seminars, the world’s leading international creative writing conference, working closely with local literary communities in Vilnius, Lithuania and Montreal, Quebec, and administrating classes and events featuring writers such as Eileen Myles, Mary Gaitskill, Ilya Kaminsky, Sam Lipsyte, Martín Espada, Padgett Powell, Ariana Reines, Gary Shteyngart, Mac Wellman, and many more.

As a graduate student in NYU’s Creative Writing program, he served as a Goldwater Fellow, Events Assistant, International Editor of Washington Square Review, Editor of NYU’s thesis anthology, and taught two sections of Intro to Fiction and Poetry at the undergraduate level. During this time, he was Poetry Curator with Ann Ward at Springhouse Journal, a member of The Compost Salon at the Dactyl Foundation, Assistant at Solid Objects Press, and Visiting Instructor for both the Creative Writing Society at McGill University and Holy Family Bilingual School in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where he traveled with poet Iva Ticic to assist Spencer Reece at Our Little Roses. This work culminated in the documentary film Voices Beyond The Wall.

2017-2018 Arts & Science Excellence Award

Following graduation, he joined the staff at NYU’s Creative Writing Program full time, where he was one of four people in the university to earn a 2017-2018 Arts & Science Excellence Award. He organized and executed major literary events in New York City on NYU’s behalf including:

Stockman recently performed the role of  “Victor Pistachio” in Bloodshot at Target Margin Theater as part of The Expotential Festival 2020. American Theater wrote of Bloodshot: “Carefully crafted, with vivid language and imagery, and first-rate support from director Sanaz Ghajar’s cabaret-style production . . . it crackled with sharp repartee, atmospheric projections, and a creeping sense of mystery mixed with smart self-awareness.”
